Wash Park UCC aspires to be a place where people can explore their own faith in an atmosphere of personal acceptance, intellectual excitement and spiritual support. It is our hope that those who have spent time in church education should exhibit growing ability:
to give ultimate loyalty to God
to think constructively for themselves
to make and take responsibility for forthright ethical decisions
to function responsibly in human community
to use their gifts appropriately
to establish healthy interpersonal relationships
to respond constructively to change
Learning is a life-long experience with most of it taking place outside the class room. It is, therefore, the educational task of the church to address the educational role of the larger community as well as provide Christian education classes at the church.
Education is primarily training in how, rather than what, to think and feel. In good Christian education, Hebrew-Christian understandings are suggested as insights into the purpose of human life, and students are encouraged to choose those authentic for them, free from ignorance, superstition and dogmatism. To be effective in its educational task, the church must embody the values it professes, which are honesty, creative freedom and each individual's uniqueness. Christian Education is the work of the whole church and not just that of the parents of children.
