Because understandings can be experienced before they can be intellectually assimilated, WPUCC's programs for children give priority to healthy relationships, good feelings, creativity, and experiences which affirm the child's sense of worth and position in a safe & loving community.
Nursery care is provided for babies & toddlers. Parents of pre-schoolers and infants can take them to their rooms downstairs after the Children's Time. Our nursery attendant and parent volunteers teach the little ones the same stories and songs as our older children and introduce concepts very simply through active methods, which allows all children in a family to 'be on the same page' each Sunday.
An Intergenerational Service is held each quarter where all are invited to stay and participate in the worship service. Children are also invited to participate fully in monthly communion services.
Toward this end, we have begun a Sunday morning program for Youth in grades 6 - 12. Over the EDGE encourages young people to investigate where and how their faith impacts their lives. It is a safe place to explore the underlying messages not only in Bible stories, but also in popular culture. Youth are then encouraged to determine what Jesus' message calling us to social justice requires of them in the here & now of their lives. Over the EDGE meets weekly on the new Youth Room downstairs after the Children's Time in Worship.
Nursery care is also provided during our Adult Ed class each Sunday from 9 - 10. Children can enjoy a snack, games and stories while parents learn about the varied topics our Adults address each Sunday morning, which range from Justice Concerns to Social Concerns to Spiritual Concerns. Please check the Adult Ed page for more detailed information.
